Community ITP is in practice in Mill Valley, California and we are entering our 4th year. Ours is a shared practice in which decisions are reached by consensus. I have a 14 1/2 yr old daughter. she is really depessed and HATES life right now. She doesn't have any friends and doesn't understand in her mind "What is the point of life if you are not happy. I heard about the book "The Way of Aikido" on the radio Sunday morning and I looked the information up on this sight. Now my question, Would this book be helpful for my daughter to read or would it be too "heavy" for her. She really needs to find a happiness and a niche in life so she has something to look forward to. The description to the book sounds wonderful and I wish that it would do that for my daughter. I am interested in two possible "flow" consciousness precursors:: 1), a focus on a limited stimulus field, and 2) an opening up kind of meditation or brain mode wherein one is open to a wide range of stimuli with a feature awareness of something narrow like a basketball but with a very high degree of awareness of other stimuli in the field. I have been interested in ITP for some time, but I've had some difficulty in persisting with the practice. A local group would be a great encouragement (Washington, DC area). Are there any others in the area who would be interested in starting such a group? Perhaps an internet mail list would be useful with or without a local group. I am interested in starting a Seattle area ITP network. The purpose will be primarily to support each other in continuing and deepening our practice of the ITP KATA. In addition, we may potentially come together for group process, study circles and other related activities. Community ITP is in practice in Mill Valley every Saturday at 8:00 am, and is centered around the concept of a living, growing Community engaged in long term growth and support for one another. We arrive at decisions by consensus, encourage group participation and are open to new members in mid-August. We have retreats, field trips, a newsletter and evening speakers.
